HOW DOES IT WORK?

While acupuncture’s mechanism is still being investigated, multiple studies have provided evidence of its effectiveness and impact on human physiology. It has been found that acupuncture; 1) stimulates endorphins and other neurotransmitters to control pain 2) stimulates leukocytes to fight infection and boost immune response 3) stimulates nerve conduction to regenerate healthy tissue and restore muscle tone 4) promotes homeostatic normalization and regulation of body function. Insertion of small needles at specific locations of the body promotes the flow of oxygen, blood, nerve impulses and hormones.

DOES ACUPUNCTURE HURT?

Ninety-five percent of the time, patients feel no pain. However, with chronic illnesses and first-time patients, there may be a tingling or heat sensation as muscles relax and circulation and nerve function are restored.

IS ACUPUNCTURE SAFE?

The acupuncture needles used during treatment are terile, single use disposable needles that are discarded after use. Patient afety is a primary concern, so needling is always done with patient safety in mind.

HOW DEEPLY ARE THE NEEDLES INSERTED?

The depth of insertion can be different depending on the location of the acupoint. Although the average depth is approximately one-half inch, it can be as little as one- tenth of an inch, or up to five inches, depending upon specific location and the individual.
